This Saw shelled turtle was brought in to care after it had been caught on a fishing line. Lismore Veterinary clinic operated on the turtle and removed a fishing hook from it's throat. It was kept in care for some time, untill the carer was sure it could feed itself with no problems, and the throat had healed.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of a tour bus operator, this fledgling Wedge-tailed Eagle was spotted on the ground near Ulong, in the hills west of Coffs Harbour.
Late last week Neil, a caring motorist, was travelling between Wellington and Orange in central western NSW when he saw an injured bird of prey in the middle of the road.
According to the Newcastle Herald, earlier this week oil was pumped accidentally from a coal ship on Kooragang Island. The oil and water mixture was pumped into the harbour as the ship was "deballasting" to take on coal. The thick, black oil has coated rocks on the island shore despite efforts to contain the spill.
Our Rescue Ambulance was called to Avalon on the northern beaches of Sydney to pick up this very young Ringtail Possum joey who had been brought in by the family cat.

The Whistling Kite pictured came into care from Brooms Head. Our member at Broom, Stephanie was called to collect the chick after it had fallen from the nest during strong winds overnight. Stephanie delivered the chick to a carer experienced in caring for Raptors.
Echidnas become more active in Spring and more come into WIRES care during this time.
This young female echidna came into WIRES care after she was found wandering around after heavy rain most likely washed from her burrow. She was flyblown, waterlogged and still dependant on her mother’s milk.
